The resident worried. "After I told Mr. K about his CAT scan, he got upset … I did not know what to say."

I wanted to give him words, but I said, "Sitting with that sadness is really hard. Any ideas about how you could respond?"

I waited.

"What about," he said, "‘This is really sad’?"
