The doctor shows me how to massage the belly forward and provide cord traction with clamps. As the baby cries, the placenta plops into the tub like a spent jellyfish. Mom strokes the back of her fingers against baby’s cheek. I congratulate the couple, clean up, and walk back, squishing, to the locker room.
