In the July—August 2009 issue, Academic Psychiatry published a letter (Wolff T, Jenkins C, Brenner A, et al: Medical student moonlighting in the psychiatry emergency room. Acad Psychiatry 2009; 33:343—344) that detailed how the departments of psychiatry at Parkland Health and Hospital System and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center employed medical students as "moonlighters" in the psychiatry emergency department. In June of 2011, UT Southwestern Medical Center indicated that it no longer employs medical students to serve in the Parkland Memorial Hospital's psychiatric emergency department.
