This impressive set of papers presents a wealth of new, interesting, and useful information about our teaching and its effect, new teaching venues, and students’ attitudes and reactions to various emotional issues. Several years ago, Feldmann (21) outlined characteristics of successful medical student programs in psychiatry, which included a strong core curriculum, commitment to education, diversity of educational experience, high visibility within the medical school, aggressive outreach to students, projection of a positive view of psychiatry, an emphasis on what psychiatrists do, personalized contacts and mentoring, tracking of interested students, and special activities for students. The articles in this issue seem to examine some of these characteristics from different perspectives and enrich and expand on them. Finally, this collection suggests the caring, thoughtful nature of our approach to teaching, medical students, and patient care.
