Schizophrenia

voices in my head

i wish they would be dead —

these voices in my head

she said

as her eyes darted around the room

while her mesolimbic system

turned thoughts into dominos —

each one colliding with and toppling the next

down a path she never agreed to take

but she agreed to take the pills

(finally)

(reluctantly)

second line

pills that tame the dopamine

atypical to typical

monitoring

to get the voices to subside

so with her brain she can abide.
