Call for Papers on Suicide Prevention, Evaluation, and Intervention
Academic Psychiatry 2012;36:489-489. 10.1176/appi.ap.366489
text A A A

Despite the serious public health impact and life-threatening nature of illnesses and conditions associated with suicide, they have received little attention in society and are poorly understood and profoundly stigmatized. Learning to understand and evaluate people at risk for self-harm is an important element of medical student and resident education.

New evidence-based models for prevention of suicide are emerging, and these new models have inspired optimism. Integrating these new models is an exciting challenge for medical educators. To this aim, Academic Psychiatry is working with the Kubly Foundation to create a special issue of articles that support the development of novel curricula and innovative teaching in the important area of suicide prevention, evaluation, and intervention.

In keeping with the overall mission of Academic Psychiatry, papers ideally will be evidence-based, drawing upon data and outcome measures, and/or involving multiple sites. Comprehensive reviews and case studies are also welcome. All submissions will be peer reviewed in keeping with the journal's policy. Submissions are due by December 1, 2012.

Submissions should be uploaded to ScholarOne Manuscripts (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/appi-ap). Please indicate in the cover letter that the submission is for this special issue. For more information, please visit our Web site at ap.psychiatryonline.org. Please direct questions on the submission process to Ms. Ann Tennier, Senior Editorial Associate, at 262-346-1461 or acadpsych@gmail.com.
