Ten years ago. Thirty-two weeks, 2000 g, pneumonia, cardiac defect, cerebral bleed, the chart said. “Not out of the woods yet,” the NICU doctor said.

Last week. All A’s, the report card said. “My most positive kid—friends with everyone—artist, musician, jump-roper—and those freckles! An angel!” the teacher said.

Truly.
