Delaying the “termination talk” about my upcoming graduation was about the patients, of course. As I prepared to bring it up—an unmistakable wave of sorrow. I would no longer be the psychiatrist caring for and about them. In that moment, I allowed myself the privilege of being a real part of the therapy process.
