Director of Psychiatry Undergraduate Medical Education, University of Illinois at Chicago

text A A A

Thirty-five medical students every six weeks, eight psychiatry clerkship rotations per year.

End-of-clerkship review:

Thirty-five students prescribed medication.

Twenty-six witnessed ECT. Seven co-led groups with a social worker. No one saw a psychiatrist do psychotherapy.

Student comment: “I hear that if you like to talk to patients, try Family Medicine.”

Why should students believe otherwise?
