A Discussion of Teaching Among Colleagues

Educational perspectives can be useful guides to our teachingin psychiatry. Nevertheless, formal training about teachingin psychiatry is uncommon and rarely includes the study of educationalperspectives or theory that underlies teaching. Using a modifiedcase-based format, the authors present three different critiquesof a hypothetical faculty member who teaches from a behaviorallearning perspective. Feedback from faculty with cognitive,social learning, and interpersonal-inspiration perspectivesis provided. The value and application of understanding educationalperspectives in teaching is discussed.
