Two Special Books Worthy of Review

Key Words: Psychopharmacology • Curriculum Development

In our previous issue, the first of two reviews of the new model curriculum produced by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology was published. Dr. Steven Dubovsky, a dedicated educator and well-known psychopharmacologist presented his perspective. Below is a review by Dr. Ronald Rieder, an expert psychopharmacologist and highly respected Residency Training Director. As we hoped, these two reviewers shared many observations about the curriculum, yet also observe distinctive aspects of it. We hope the pair will be helpful to our readership.

We are also presenting the companion review of the new Handbook of Psychiatric Education and Faculty Development. Last issue, Dr. Kenneth Z. Altshuler, a senior academic administrator, reviewed this book as a mentor who might think of using it in faculty development. Dr. Hughes is a different kind of potential "consumer" of this book. She is a junior academician who would look for help in pursuing her career as an educator. We hope that the pairing of these two reviews will offer our readership more insight than the usual single review.
